3.1-- Adjusting the ReSample conversion settings

3.1.1--- Default "New task" settings
As introduced in the previous chapter, ReSample enables you to set up a multi-file batch conversion job very quickly by automatically invoking "default" settings for every new file you add to the project. Using this mechanism, there is no need to individually configure the conversion settings for each file. The default settings can be adjusted via the "New task output settings" panel (located in the upper-right-hand-side of the project configuration screen (see Figure 4), and shown enlarged below):

Figure 8 Close-up of the conversion settings panel in its "New task output settings" mode via which the automatic settings for all newly-added tasks can be adjusted.

If this panel is not visible (replaced instead by the "Selected task(s) output settings" panel), simply press the "View defaults" button to toggle the state of the window, bringing forward the "New task output settings" panel. All the default parameters can then be directly adjusted via this panel (as described in detail below). In addition to adjusting the default parameters directly, the "Set as defaults" button enables the custom settings from the (first in the list of ) currently-selected task(s) to be adopted as the default settings. Also, the default settings can be returned to their original "system default state" by pressing the "Restore system defaults" button.

3.1.2--- "Selected task" settings
Once a file -- or multiple files -- have been added to the Project Manager with the automatic default "New task" settings, the individual settings of one or more files can be customized simply by selecting them in the Project Manager (with the mouse). The "Selected task(s) output settings" panel will automatically appear (in the upper-right-hand-side of the screen (see Figure 5) , and shown enlarged below), replacing the "New task output settings" panel.

Figure 9 Close-up of the conversion settings panel in its "Selected task(s) output settings" mode via which the settings for selected task(s), already included in the project, can be adjusted on an individual or group basis.

All the parameters for the selected task(s) can then be directly adjusted via this panel (as described in detail below). In addition to adjusting the selected-task(s) parameters directly, the "Apply defaults" button enables the current default settings to be applied to all selected tasks.

If you happen to have toggled back to the "New task output settings" panel, the "Selected task(s) output settings" panel can be brought to the front by pressing the "View selected task settings" button.
3.1.3--- Switching between the "New task" and "Selected task" settings panels

For convenience, the toggle-state of the settings panel - i.e. "New task output settings" or "Selected task(s) output settings", is determined semi-automatically, according to the following criteria: if the Project Manager list is empty, or if no tasks are selected, the settings panel will resort to the "New task output settings" mode, in preparation for configuring new tasks. As soon as a new task has been added to the project, the new task(s) will be automatically selected in the Project Manager panel, and the settings panel will correspondingly switch to the "Selected task(s) output settings" mode, in preparation for customizing the recently-added task(s).

Despite the semi-automatic behavior, the panel settings mode can always be switched manually via the "View selected task settings" button (to enable the "Selected task(s) output settings") and the "View defaults" button (to enable the "New task output settings").

Depending on the toggle-state of the settings panel - i.e. "New task output settings" or "Selected task(s) output settings", the controls therein will affect either the default settings or the selected-task(s) settings, respectively. In either case, the controls look and act in a similar manner. They are described in detail in the following sections. Note that all settings can be saved to (and restored from) a project (".prj") file using the "Save project..." (and "Load project...") button(s) (see section 2.3).

3.1.4--- Window color-coding

As a visual aid when working with the dual-mode settings panel, each mode has a different background color. Specifically, the "New task output settings" panel is green (see Figure 8 ), the same color as the "Input file selector", emphasizing the connection with new tasks being added. The "Selected task(s) output settings" panel is blue (see Figure 9), the same color as the "ReSample Project Manager", emphasizing the connection with tasks already included in the project.
