Dynamic Range Controllers:

Noise-Gate Threshold

Functional Description
Special-purpose component for implementing a "noise-gate static curve" for use in the element-by-element construction of a dynamic range noise-gate. The control signal input is assumed to originate from the mean-square measurement of an audio signal, converted to a logarithmic scale in base-2. This "dB" signal measurement is compared with the noise-gate threshold (adjustable via the Parameter Window). If the signal is below the threshold, the control output is set to zero, otherwise it is set to one. It is intended that the output is used directly as a gain value.

IMPORTANT: This component is not intended for any use other than the specialised application described above.

Algorithm
See [Zo] section 7.1 for an explanation of "static curves", and section 7.3.2 for a discussion specific to the implementation of a "noise-gate static curve".
