2.3-- Starting with a standalone audio processing example

The first time you start WaveWarp as a standalone application (after successfully completing the installation and registration procedure), an example DrawingBoard called "Welcome.dwb" will automatically open. The screen will look something like the following (without the annotations):

Figure 1 Annotated screenshot of WaveWarp with the "Welcome.dwb" Example DrawingBoard open.

The DrawingBoard architecture is the heart of WaveWarp. Think of the DrawingBoard as a virtual effects rack and patchbay where you can connect together an arbitrary number of effects units (selected from the Component Library), in any order and configuration (series, parallel, feedforward, feedback) using virtual cables (mouse-clicks).

The "Welcome.dwb" example DrawingBoard illustrates some of the key features of the WaveWarp architecture. Although you will find that WaveWarp is simple to use, it takes a little practice. We recommend that you start by experimenting with "Welcome.dwb" as described in the following sections in order to gain rapid familiarity with WaveWarp. The Message Window (visible near the bottom of Figure 1) provides you with informative messages about WaveWarp's operation, as well as notifications when you are trying to do something which is not allowed.

Note: when operating as a "standalone" processor, the WaveWarp Control Status Window (see Figure 1) displays the message "Currently Under Manual Control". This means that WaveWarp is entirely controlled from within the WaveWarp application. By contrast, when WaveWarp is operating as a plugin to another application (see section 3--), then the Control Status Window will display a message to the effect that WaveWarp is under the "Remote Control" of another application.
