2.13-- Creating a new DrawingBoard

To create a new DrawingBoard, select one of the options starting with "New" under the "File" menu item (see Figure 6). The various options are provided for convenient construction of commonly-used DrawingBoard types. Depending which option you choose, the new DrawingBoard will be pre-configured with some basic components, as summarised in Table 1. There are mono and stereo options for each type (except for the New Empty DrawingBoard). These pre-configured DrawingBoards are only meant as convenient starting points. They can be completely re-configured, as desired.

Table 1 DrawingBoard creation options

"New" DrawingBoard option

Pre-configuration

New Empty DrawingBoard

Completely empty DrawingBoard. You must build up everything from scratch!

New WAV Play DrawingBoard

Pre-configured with a WAV file input connected to a soundcard output. As it stands, the DrawingBoard is set up for simple playback of the WAV file. However, by adding components between the WAV file and the soundcard, you can quickly build a totally customisable standalone WAV effect processor. You may easily switch to any desired WAV file by double-clicking on the name of the WAV file already on the DrawingBoard. Note: this configuration is particularly useful for rapid prototyping of a new effect since you can conveniently listen to the output for any chosen input. Once the effect is ready, you can convert the DrawingBoard to any other type (e.g. a DirectX plugin) at the "click-of-the-mouse" (see section 2.28--).

New DirectX DrawingBoard

Pre-configured with a DirectX Input Port connected to a DirectX Output Port. By adding components between these ports, you can quickly build a totally customisable DirectX plugin for use with your favorite audio editor/sequencer application " (see section 3--).

New Live DrawingBoard

Pre-configured with a live soundcard input connected to a soundcard output. By adding components between the input and output, you can quickly build a totally customisable live effect processor (see section 2.25--).

New Live Record DrawingBoard

Pre-configured with a live soundcard input connected to a WAV file output. As it stands, the DrawingBoard is set up for simple recording of a live input to a WAV file. However, by adding components between the live input and the WAV file output, you can quickly build a totally customisable effect which is applied before recording. You may easily switch to any desired output WAV file by double-clicking on the name of the WAV file already on the DrawingBoard.

Notes:

      1. You can also gain access to the various "New" DrawingBoard creation options by right-clicking anywhere on the main toolbar.

      2. You may also create a new empty DrawingBoard by clicking the "New DrawingBoard" button (see Figure 7).
